Term Definition
AGM

Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is the annually meeting that the regional forums and the active branches are required by the Constitution to hold. At the AGM the elections for any posts take place and also the postholders report officially about their work.

AL

Associated Lecturer
Associate lecturer is the formal title of the staff who tutor the OU's students.

CCC

Central Constultative Committee
An OU committee which consists of students from each region and also one student from Continential Europe (CE), Associate Lecturers (AL) and OU staff.

CE

Continental Europe
The term means Europe excluding the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Ireland and Iceland. (This is the British English usage of the term!)

Central Rep

Central Representative
Student volunteer appointed by the OUSA Executive Committee to sit on OU boards and committees.

CMA

Computer Marked Assignment
"Some courses use computer-marked assignments for teaching and assessment purposes. The questions are always of a multiple-choice format and students complete a computer-readable form. This type of assignment is submitted by post directly to the Assignment Records Office at Walton Hall. Computer-generated score and feedback letters are despatched a few days after the cut-off date." DSG

Disabled Student Group
The role of the Disabled Student Group (DSG) is to represent students with health problems and disabilities within OUSA and the University to promote their needs. This representation is additional to members' rights to actively participate in their Branches and Regions.

DSL

Disabled Student Link
The Disabled Students Links are able to help with issues affecting disabled students. For example, concerns about access to tutorial venues, challenges about attending residential school, format of course materials and dealing with a home assessment.

EC

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee (EC) has the corporate responsibility for the execution of all aspects of the Association's affairs between Conferences. It is bound by the provisions of the Constitution and is charged with the responsibility for upholding both the Constitution and all Conference resolutions as the only clear mandate for executive action. Any deviation from these provisions necessary to take account of particular circumstances arising during the year must be justified at the next meeting of Conference.

The Executive Committee (EC) consists of the OUSA President, OUSA's Vice Presidents (VP), Executive Committee Members (ECM) from regions and sub-regions, ECM for Student Academic Links, ECM Societies and OU Council Member.

ECA

End of Course Assessment
The End of Course Assessment (ECA) is one of the possible examinable component of an OU course. A course may include an ECA and an examination. For further details refer to the course description.

ECM

Executive Committee Member
Executive Committee Members (ECMs) for geographical areas are responsible for the proper representation of OUSA in their respective regions. They are responsible for ensuring that their members are given adequate information through their branches, regional forums and other appropriate channels concerning central events and affairs. They are also responsible for the representation of regional opinion forwarded by branches and regional forums; they are expected to keep in contact with branches throughout their regions and, ex-officio, to attend regional forum meetings to explain and promote the policy of the Association determined by Conference.
